It’s been a long, cold and snowy winter and I am ready for spring. This past weekend Blue and I attended our supported entry with the Detroit Kennel Club at Cobo Hall. On behalf of our club I would like to thank Chris Lezotte and Alan Kalter for hosting this wonderful event with DKC. We brought in $515 total with $345 of that coming back from DKC for supporting the entries with a major both days.
We also raffled off prizes with Elizabeth Falk winning an original drawing donated by Susan Gore Smith. She also won a pewter pin imported from the Norwegian Bullmastiff club donated by Phyllis Mulchay. Patti and Eric Boyst won a print of a bullmastiff head piece donated by Christy Olarry. Tony Scully and Kathy Spencer won a basket full of assorted Starbucks items donated by Maureen and I.
Alan Kalter did a superb job as our sweeps judge on Saturday, finding some excellent examples of our breed from a beautiful group of up and coming young bullies. I will attach the rest of the weekend’s results at the end of this post. This show serves as a great place for a breeders showcase and to educate the public about our breed. Thanks to everyone that took time to answer questions from the public. I noticed that most everyone was polite and asked first before touching the dogs. This was not always the case a few years ago.
Going forward we are planning for the upcoming specialty Memorial Day weekend. Linda Murphy is our show chairperson; she brings to the job lots of experience being a past ABA Nationals show chair and ABA President. Phyllis Mulchay is working hard on making and purchasing the trophies. The show committee will be meeting this month to firm up the final details of the event. A special thanks to Barb Ellison, Maureen Konkey and everyone who sponsored trophies. Even during this tough economy our members stepped up and filled all the trophy spots.
Also we have purchased a large Bullmastiff headpiece made of sheet steel to raffle. Chances are $10 with only 200 chances being sold, it can be seen on the web site.
Just reminder membership renewals are due this spring. Thanks to your continuing support our new club is now financially stable.
Stay tuned to the web site for club updates.
In solidarity,
Roy Konkey
